You want the truth? I’ve never killed anybody in my entire life. If you believe me, we can get in the car, and we can drive straight home.
I can’t help but feel like this film could have been a little better had the actors been casted differently. Rami Malek has a natural strangeness to him that resonates way more with a suspected serial killer than a detective. Denzel Washington has a natural charisma and leadership ora that makes him a solid fit for the detective role, rather than a below average cop who’s made some mistakes. Jared Leto seems to be the only one that actually fits his role, which he plays very well. But, that wasn’t enough to carry the uneventful plot. The editing was sloppy and there were very few scenes with impressive cinematography. Overall, this film feels like a mess that could have been a little better if the cast were more appropriate. You can see the most climactic events coming from a mile away, which ultimately removed any suspense that existed in the first place.
