A formulaic teen slasher with familiar overtones, but somewhat of an original arc to the overall storyline. Usually, with this kind of film I expect a lot of cheesiness from the narrative and the characters, but there’s a sense of maturity here that allowed me to watch this YA horror film with a little more sincerity. This movie has it’s fair share of predictability, but not without some surprises along the way. There’s not much to write about concerning the production quality, but nothing negative production wise jumped out at me.
There was some decent acting here, namely from Sydney Park and one of the whites, Théodore Pellerin. Their individual performances were impressive, as well as their chemistry with one another.
While the overall product wasn’t that great, I was a huge fan of the diversity among the core cast members. A half black/ half Korean girl, a black girl, a transgender, and a latino. It’s definitely something we’re seeing more of in film these days, and I’m here for it. If you’re not, well, deal with it I guess.
